As the webmaster for the Harris County Department of Education, I was responsible for redesigning and redeveloping the organization’s website. I worked alongside the Communications & Creative Services division, leadership, the Board, staff, community members, and other stakeholders to identify how often they visited and how they used the current website.
Our primary objective was to create a mobile-friendly, intuitive, and accessible website that shows visitors what we do and allows them to quickly access the tools and resources they need.
We achieved this by implementing a bold, “maximalist” design that reflected the organization’s “See the Impact” tagline. We also used innovative tools to ensure accessibility, easy navigation, and streamlined content updates.
Our efforts successfully engaged Harris County educators, businesses, parents, and students of all ages, highlighting the resources and value that HCDE offers. As a result, we increased website traffic by 26%.
